I’ve been busy working on my main paper for the semester. Since I’m studying the minor prophets I had to choose one to write my paper on. I thought about picking Obadiah (being only 27 verses), but it got picked before I could get the list.
Instead, I’ve chosen Nahum. There’s not much information about the person, only that he was called an Elkoshite. No one’s really sure where he’s from either (I made reference to this in my paper). He could have been born to parents who were carried away into captivity by Assyria, or he could have been in Judah. I mentioned the captivity, because there is a town a bit north of Nineveh named Elkosh. Since the book is about judgment of Nineveh, it’s not that far of a stretch to have him born in captivity. It does explain his bitterness and anger towards Nineveh, and his fondness for Israel and Judah.
I think the whole thing is rather interesting and intriguing at the same time.
